It is very seldom I see something which changes my “Happily Unmarried” state of mind. My Leo disposition - being a fixed sign and all - allows little room for conversion and NYC is the one city on earth where it seems much harder to be married than single. But last Saturday evening - appropriately on the quintessential date night - the clothes, the music, the lights and the festive vibe at the Bridal Show for Priscilla of Boston brought out in me the desire for a change. During the taxi ride home, I pondered the idea of the “Happily Married Ever After” column and even thought of its spin-off thereafter, the “Married with Kids and Horses Living in the Country Happily Ever After” column. But I digress…
Priscilla of Boston is a company consisting of five very different and noteworthy lines. Reverie by Melissa Sweet Fall 2009 line “Arrive Fashionably White” and the Vineyard Collection, designed by Mark Brower, had an overall easy flair and the latter included little white cocktail dresses that could absolutely work for an elegant soiree or a gala. Priscilla of Boston, designed by Tracy Uomoleale, included a section of bridesmaids and rehearsal dinner dresses and gowns that were absolutely delicious in colors like Clementine and Rosewater. Great matching headbands, with crystal details, finished the looks and made the dresses totally wearable.
The Melissa Sweet Collection, designed by Lia McNairy and Antonio Gual, also kicked off with some great cocktail dresses, including personal favorites in a gorgeous Cobalt Blue silk charmeuse. This bridal collection was full of back detailing - pearl buttons, bows and cowl rouching - just what a bride needs while standing at the altar, waiting to say her “I Do”!
But the absolutely knock-out, drop dead gorgeous looks were saved for last: The Platinum Fall 09 Collection titled “Baubles Bangles & Beads” was truly what women’s dreams are made of. One show stopping dress after another came down the runway, worn elegantly and easily by the beautiful and impeccably-styled models. The hair, the make-up and even the choice of music - The Rolling Stones, no less! - made the exquisitely crafted gowns appear like the ultimate hip dream. And this girl, Yours Truly, even found the PERFECT HUEA dress, a short cocktail-length strapless silk gem with an embroidered Empire bodice and bow detail in the back. With little side-slit pockets - a feature I am just beginning to fully understand in wedding dresses - this dress made a convert out of me…
Ultimately, the show stopper was the Windsor Blue silk taffeta ballgown, pictured above. It inspired dreams of a fairy tale wedding and simply left the audience breathless, while the clicks of the photographers’ cameras could be heard exploding above the music. But its uniqueness requires a very confident bride indeed. Maybe because of the effortless attitude of the model wearing it, or perhaps the delicious Champagne, ginger and tangerine concoction served before the show, but that light blue, feathered, divine wedding dress definitely changed my mind about weddings… I’ll have to keep you posted on how long this feeling lasts.
